Modern Relationship Science is a global platform dedicated to transforming how we understand love, intimacy, and human connection. We integrate relationship psychology, emotional intelligence, and evidence-based coaching to make the science of relationships accessible to everyone. Rooted in inclusivity and modern love, our work explores monogamy, polyamory, and the full spectrum of consensual non-monogamy through a lens of research, compassion, and conscious communication. We empower individuals, couples, and polycules to build healthy, custom relationships that are emotionally secure, ethically aligned, and designed to last.
At the heart of Modern Relationship Science is a belief that love can be both data-driven and deeply human, where healing, self-awareness, and authentic connection create lasting relationship resilience.

Jan Dominy is a relationship scientist, coach, and educator specializing in consensual non-monogamy, attachment, and trauma-informed intimacy. With over fifteen years of research in non-monogamous relationship structures, Jan bridges the gap between academic relationship science and lived experience, helping individuals, couples, and polycules design intentional, sustainable, and deeply fulfilling connections.
As the founder of Modern Relationship Science and Modern Polyamory, Jan leads a new generation of thought leaders exploring how love, desire, and communication evolve in a post-monogamy world. Their work integrates psychology, sociology, and evidence-based coaching with real-world applications drawn from thousands of hours of community leadership, podcasting, and coaching practice.
Jan’s coaching approach combines structured reflection, emotional literacy, and collaborative growth strategies to help clients thrive in complex relationship ecosystems. Through this work, Jan teaches that love is not a formula to balance but a living system to be understood, cultivated, and celebrated.
Currently completing a degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno, Jan is preparing for graduate research in Couple and Family Therapy, where they aim to expand the field of relationship science for polyamorous and queer partnerships. Their upcoming book, The Modern Polyamory Method: Tools for Long-Term Polyamorous Resilience, reframes love as a skill set that can be taught, practiced, and customized into what Jan calls custom loving.
Outside of academia, Jan’s work has reached global audiences through the Modern Polyamory podcast, social media education, and online workshops. Their teaching emphasizes consent, communication, and compassion as the cornerstones of relational freedom, guiding clients toward authentic expression and emotional sovereignty.
A self-described “researcher of love in all its forms,” Jan blends science with soul, helping people not only understand relationships but reimagine what love can be.
